O Mother Where Art Thou

By Carol Porter

This song shares the deepest yearnings of my heart. I want to know that my Heavenly Mother loves me, that She hears me, and that She matters to me now. I feel frustrated that I’ve been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my whole life and I am just now learning about Her. But I feel hopeful that this is changing and She will be recognized more.

Ever since I was a child
He was promised near me
I could pray and talk to Him
My Father, always listening
Now I’m grown, kids of my own
A mother I am now
And I think of my Mother
O Mother, where art Thou?

They said He’s always near
They said He’s who sent me here
They said He’s my Heavenly Father
Where’s my Heavenly Mother?

Ever since I had a child
Mother love consumes me
I watch and teach and talk to them
A mother always knowing
They’ll be grown, kids of their own
But mom I’ll always be
And I think of my Mother
O where can She be?

They said He’s always near
They said He’s who sent me here
They said He’s my Heavenly Father
Where’s my Heavenly Mother?
I want to know about my Mother

Is She near?
Does She hear all my hopes, all my fears?
Is She there? Does She care?
Must have missed class that day
Did they say? Can’t recall
Does She matter at all?
Because in class all they said, was they said

They said He’s always near
They said He’s who sent me here
They said He’s my Heavenly Father
Where’s my Heavenly Mother?
What did they say about my Mother?
They said He’s always there
They said He’ll answer my prayer
He’s the King and I am His daughter
Where’s the Queen, where is my Mother?
I want to know about my Mother
