My Mothers

My Mothers by Stephanie Wood
My grandmas.
And great grandmas.
All of the women who came before me.

I can’t see them.
But I know they’re there.

They were noble.
Elegant.
Feisty.
Passionate.
Fun.
Curious.
Thoughtful.
Adventurous.

And they struggled.
Like me.
Secrets weighing on the soul.
Health.
Finances.
Depression.
Anxiety.
Feeling inadequate.
Doubt.
Loneliness.
Abuse.

I come from them.
I have their blood running through my veins.
I have their love surrounding me.

They are there.
All the women of my past.
With stories I will someday hear.
With hearts that feel what I’m feeling.
And with love and strength that reach beyond boundaries.

And above them all She is there.
Laughing, crying, aching, and smiling.
Very involved.

I come from Her.
I have Her Divinity running through my soul.
I have Her love surrounding me.
