Not Consumed

by Taylor Carver Kevan

I wrote this “Not Consumed” poem after a wonderful conversation with a friend about how much joy we’d found by rejecting the patriarchal notion that in order to be a “good” mother/wife/daughter you have to loose all sense of self and always put yourself last. I commissioned Mika Rane  to make this beautiful illustration of my poem. This poetry printable is available for download on Etsy

God our Mother

bore our spirits

but was not consumed

by the ferocity

of Her love for us,

Her beloved children,

because She first

and foremost fiercely

loves God, Herself
